Data from the Census Bureau showed that total retail sales rose 1.2% during the month, significantly above the 0.6% forecasted by analysts. Non-store retailers saw the largest increase of 7.2%, which was due in part to the increase in online shopping. Other categories also saw increases such as food services and non-store retailers, clothing and accessories stores, and furniture and home furnishing stores.
